Fonds consists of photographs of the career of Chief Superintendent A.B. Allard of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Photographs depict: Officers of the Royal Canadian Regiment, Halifax, N.S., ca. 1911; presentation of Colours to the 128th Battalion, C.E.F., Moose Jaw, Sask., 1 May, 1919; visit of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales to Regina, Sask., 4 Oct., 1919; various activities of Inspector A.B. Allard, R.C.M.P., 1928-1930; and portraits of Viscount Byng of Vimy and Lady Byng.

Allard, Alphonse Beddey, born 1882 : Alphonse Beddey Allard was born in Québec City, Québec, on 25 September 1882. Allard was originally commissioned in the permanent army before the Imperial Troops were withdrawn from Canada and a Canadian Regular Army was formed. As he had a Queen's Commission in the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), Allard had to make a decision regarding his return to Britain with his regiment, or reassignment to a new Canadian Regiment. Allard, wishing to stay in Canada, requested a direct transfer to the North West Mounted Police in 1904, and was granted this with the privilege of retaining military rank throughout his service with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). With each promotion in the R.C.M.P. his military rank was adjusted. As such, when he retired from the R.C.M.P. he was also a Lieutenant Colonel. Beginning in 1904, Allard worked as Inspector Royal North West Mounted Police (RNWMP), Regina, Saskatchewan, and was promoted to R.N.W.M. Police Captain of 3rd R.C.R in approximately 1915. Allard also served as Chief Superintendent, Officer Commanding Manitoba Division of the R.C.M.P. (ca. 1929), which consisted of the whole of the Province of Manitoba and the western section of Ontario to Kenora. In addition, he was Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Allard was married to Margart G. Allard. Together they had at least one child, Dorothy M. Allard.

The images were loaned to the National Archives of Canada in 1975 by Dorothy M. Allard, Ottawa, Ont., daughter to Apphonse Beddey Allard. The originals were returned to the lender.
