Fonds consists of landscape, industrial, advertisting and portrait photography taken in and around Calgary, Alberta, by Anthony Attanyi. Individual photos are as follows: portrait of model Laura Meyer at 17 years entitled "Laura"; flower girl entitled "Decisive Moment"; 2 portraits of Nancy Meyer entitled "Moonlight and Shadows" and "Nancy"; "Oil rig" taken in Priddis, Alberta; site of a gas plant entitled "Sunflare"; Pacific 66 promotion photo entitled "Rainwear"; "The slave and his girl" depicting a dog and cat; "Sunset over Calgary" taken during Stampede week; Leslie Agghazy during a game entitled "A game of chess"; stampede action entitled "Arch of Exit"; and "Referee's Nightmare" taken during a football game, 1972.

Attanyi, Anthony : Anthony Attanyi was born in Poland in 1921 to Hungarian parents. His father, a foreign affairs minister, travelled extensively throughout Europe. Attanyi went to school in Bucharest, Cologne, Munich, Mako and Budapest. While in grade nine, he became interested in photography after purchasing a glass plate camera. He worked his way through university as a sports photographer, and graduated in 1944 with a PhD in Political Science from the University of Budapest. Following his graduation, Attanyi was drafted into the War Correspondence Unit of the Hungarian Army where he took photos depicting the defeat of the Germans. After the war he was captured and held prisoner by Russians in a slave camp for 3 years. Upon his release, as there was no private enterprise, he took an office job in Hungary. In 1954 he obtained his studio licence and operated a successful business from his home. Three years later he escaped from Hungary and emigrated to Canada. After his first 7 years in Canada, Attanyi opened a residential studio in Calgary specializing in colour photography. In 1961 he took a course at the Winona International School of Professional Photography, thereafter joining the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPA) in 1967. Also in 1967, Attanyi founded the Calgary Photographic Society. He obtained his Craftman Degree in 1973, and Master's Degree in 1974. Attanyi has exhibited many of his photographs in national and international exhibitions, lectured, and presented seminars on photography and his work. He is a qualified commercial photographer and accredited portrait photographer.
