Series consists of negatives, contact sheets, prints, reproductions and tear sheets that cover the full spectrum of Walter Curtin's work in the field of commercial advertising photography. The series is organized chronologically including advertising assignments created in Canada and abroad. Curtin's experience in photojournalism, working on assignments for the National Film Board and various magazine publications, positioned him well to succeed in the advertising arena. By 1956, Curtin's work alternated between magazines and assignments for several advertising agencies based in Toronto and Montreal. Series includes several National design awards from the Art Director's Club of Toronto for his work in magazine advertising photography.

Photographic advertising campaigns represented in this series were commissioned by the following clients: Imperial Oil, Imperial Tobacco, Ford Canada, Trans Canada Airways, Canada Life Insurance, General Electric, Bell, Imperial Life, Mutual Life, General Foods, Tilden, Monsanto Canada Ltd., Molson Canada Breweries, London Life, Toronto Hydro, Paarl Wines Ltd., Shell Oil, IBM, Mercedes, Philips Electronics, Dow Chemical Co., Canadian Business Publications, Bank of Nova Scotia, and the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. Also represented in this series are several successful advertising campaigns produced by Walter Curtin for non-profit organizations including the Salvation Army, Addiction Research Foundation, Canadian Mental Health Association, and the West Baffin Island Workers Co-operative.

Series also consists of Walter Curtin's own self promotional material. One series specifically documents Walter Curtin shooting a series of Imperial Life insurance advertisments, photographed by his assistant Vello Muikma. Series also contains reproductions of advertising photographs and other textual material used by Curtin to promote his work in Canada and England.
