A collection of pure Americana celebrated by a montage of graphics and still photographs covering the period between 1876 and 1976. Visuals are accompanied by songs and commentaries, some of which are voiced by the participants themselves.~All facets of American life are treated, some at length, others briefly. Touched upon are Women's Suffrage at the end of the 1880s; entertainment; industry and natural resources; minorities; scientific progress; technology; and fashion.~As the new century dawns, Teddy Roosevelt talks about hard work and clean living. Immigrants flock to the shores of North America. Aviation is born and progress in telephony is depicted. World War One flashes by and the League of Nations is created. Women get the vote. The Prohibition Era is ushered in and radio becomes the current craze along with booze. American firsts in sports, aviation, and films are celebrated. Herbert Hoover helps demonstrate closed circuit television. The Recession sets in and brings dance marathons, miniature golf, chain letters, and the unemployed. The Big Band era begins bringing with it strange dances, Guy Lombardo, and Frank Sinatra. Pearl Harbour and pin-up girls suggest World War Two. The post-war period is covered in a rapid succession of stills and graphics. Barely suggested are Harry Truman, D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, rock and roll, the Beatles, Martin Luther King, and space exploration. <28mn>
