Fonds consists of photographs documenting arts and crafts, community life, industry, land use, people, scenics, tourism and transportation in the Northwest Territories and Yukon Territoriy. Photos by Micheal Van Duffelen. Included is audiodate interview with Jimmy Memagama in Holman Island, N.W.T., October 1979. The following communities are documented: Cambridge Bay, Cape Dorset, Clyde, Coppermine, Fort Smith, Frobisher Bay, Gjoa Haven, Grise Fiord, Hay River, Holman Island, Igloolik, Inuvik, Pangnirtung, Rae, Rankin Inlet, Repulse Bay, Sachs Harbour, Spence Bay, Tuktoyaktuk, Whale Cove, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse.

Biography/Administrative history:

Van Duffelen, Michael, 1950- : Born in Holland on 12 May 1950, Micheal Van Duffelen leaned attended the School of Modern Photography and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec between 1971 and 1973. During this time, he worked as an engineering reproduction technician and photographer at the Aluminum Company of Canada. In 1974, he worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal as a medical photographer and in 1975, he became the chief photographer and information officer for the Government of the N.W.T. in Yellowknife. From 1979 to 1983, he worked as a freelance photographer, mainly as a contractor for the federal governement. Since 1983, he has been working as a scanner operator, prepress and graphic specialist and technical consultant in Ottawa, Ontario.
