Canada. Canadian Army. Canadian Railway Troops. Battalion, 2nd : The 127th Battalion, predecessor to the 2nd Battalion Canadian Railway Troops (CRT), was organized in November 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel F.F. Clarke. Its authorization was published in General Order 151 of 22 December 1915. The battalion mobilized at Newmarket and recruited in York County. The recruiting trek began on 9 April 1916.

The battalion embarked at Halifax on 24 August 1916 aboard OLYMPIC, disembarking in England on 29 August 1916. Its strength was 32 officers and 972 other ranks. The 127th Battalion, with No. 1 Canadian Construction Battalion, became part of the Canadian Railway Construction Troops on 20 November 1916. It absorbed the 109th Battalion in December 1916. The battalion arrived in France on 12 January 1917 and its designation was changed to 2nd Battalion Canadian Railway Troops on 3 February 1917.

The 2nd Battalion Canadian Railway Troops was perpetuated by The York Rangers which, in 1936, amalgamated with The Queen's Rangers to form The Queen's York Rangers.

The battalion supported brass and bugle bands whose instruments were donated by Davis Leather Goods. The colours of 12th York Rangers of the Active Militia were deposited in Trinity Church, Aurora.
