Cette sous-série documente les missions des Nations Unies et les événements tragiques (génocide, exode des populations, mort des casques bleus) qui se sont déroulés au Rwanda au cours des années 1993-1996. Elle contient le manuscrit du volume Les Casques bleus au Rwanda publié chez Harmattan en 1998 et le manuscrit de la traduction anglaise The Blue Berets in Rwanda. La version française du manuscrit diffère de la publication puisque les chapitres un et deux n'apparaissent pas dans le livre. La sous-série inclut aussi des dossiers sur les missions d'observation et d'assistance des Nations Unies dont Hope, Homeward et Minuar (dirigée par le brigadier-général Roméo A. Dallaire); sur les opérations Lance, Passage, Turquoise; sur les tragédies dont l'assassinat du Président Habyarimana, la mort des Casques bleus belges, le génocide et l'exode des populations; et sur le procès en Belgique du colonel Luc Marchal. La sous-série comprend aussi des notes extraites d'une entrevue que le général Maurice Baril a accordée à Jacques Castonguay le 12 janvier 1996. Enfin, elle contient des notes de différentes entrevues que le général Roméo A. Dallaire a livrées à la Société Radio-Canada ainsi que de la correspondance et des coupures de presse concernant le général.
La plupart des documents de référence contiennent des notes personnelles de l'auteur, et, dans l'ensemble, des copies de rapports, de correspondance, de mémos, de directives, d'articles et de coupures de presse qui ont servi à la rédaction des manuscrits. Le matériel de référence contient aussi des copies des résolutions du Conseil de Sécurité des Nations Unies relatives au Rwanda.
La sous-série contient 86 photos relatives à la mission des Nations Unies au Rwanda. Elles ont été prises par Jacques Castonguay lors de son séjour au Rwanda en 1995. On y voit le contingent du maintien de la paix des Nations Unies, le général Roméo Dallaire, le matériel (véhicules blindés, etc.), M. Faustin (premier ministre du Rwanda), les lieux des massacres, les camps et le pays. La très grande majorité de ces photos sont inédites; seulement quelques unes ont été publiées dans le livre Les casques bleus au Rwanda.
