Fonds consists mainly of oral history interviews conducted by Raymond Stone, free-lance journalist with CBC Northern Services and the CBC radio series, The days before yesterday. The interviews represent a diversity of people who lived and worked in the Canadian North and the Arctic for many years including RCMP Officers, prospectors, government officials, Native people, scientists, medical and military personnel, bush pilots, teachers and many others, who talk about the economic, social and political development of the North, early transportation, Inuit and Indian culture and lifestyles, wildlife, search and rescue programs and Arctic sovereignty.

Stone, Raymond P : Raymond Peter Stone has been involved with communications and the media since 1955. From 1955 to 1961 as a member of the Canadian military he was a public relations photographer, cinematographer and radio producer at NATO headquarters in Metz, France. In Ottawa, Raymond Stone was head of radio and television production for the Royal Canadian Air Force Public Affairs Directorate. After leaving the military, Stone produced promotional material for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and later worked as a media consultant for Transport Canada and National Defence ministries and several private sector clients.

He also was host of a radio series for private radio, producer for a CBC radio series entitled The days before yesterday, producer for a radio information service for government departments, co-ordinator for exhibitions for the Canadian Wildlife Service and other departments and consultant to the National Capital Commission for a speakers' bureau.
