Fonds consists of oral history interviews by Gordon Osbaldeston and others of former and current senators, members of Parliament, and senior public servants about the structure and organization of the federal government. These interviews were conducted during the research phase of his publication, Organizing to govern.

Osbaldeston, Gordon F : The Honourable Gordon F. Osbaldeston, P.C., OC, served for 32 years in the federal public service beginning in 1953. He served in many capacities such as the Deputy Minister of Consumer & Corporate Affairs, the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce and Treasury Board. In 1982 he was the Under-Secretary of State for External Affairs. As Clerk of the Privy Council, he served three prime ministers. In 1987 he was appointed to head of an independent advisory team to study the concerns of the Security Intelligence Review Committee.

After retiring from the public service, Gordon Osbaldeston accepted the position of Program Director of the National Centre for Management Research and Development in the School of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario. He was the author of numerous publications such as Keeping Deputy Ministers accountable (1989) and Organizing to govern (1993) which was based on numerous oral history interviews of senators, members of Parliament and federal public servants. He was the recipient of the Order of Canada in 1997. NA Collection File (AV Archives).
