Oral history interview of Ormond Dennison of Golden Lake, Ontario, who talks about his recollections and stories of the lumber and mining operations in the Ottawa Valley, the characters he met and the places he lived. Dennison begins the interview with a history of his family who came from Ireland in 1840 and were among the first settlers on a 300 acre land grant at Lake Doré, Ontario. Dennison also recalls his family discussing the Battle of Eganville Bridge between the Orangemen and the Roman Catholics, the fire of 1912 which destroyed most of Eganville and the conscription marches at Petawawa at the debut of World War One. Other topics include his memories of the first aeroplane crash, the first telephones and radios in Northern Ontario and his Maxwell and Model T cars. He talks about his many jobs around the Valley such as a saw mill worker at Lake Doré, a log driver on the Black River, a gold miner at Kirkland Lake, a taxi driver in North Bay and a salesman for farm machinery. Discussion of the Depression in the 1930s and the harsh working conditions in the mines rounds out the interview.
