Harris provides much detail about his Harris ancestors who immigrated from England in 1818, first to Nova Scotia and later settled on a land grant at Gatineau Point, a fertile farming area. He also talks at length about the changes in Gatineau from the early years as a predominantly English-speaking, rural area. He discusses the other families in the area during his youth such as the Sharpleys, McGlachies, Kellys, Millers and others. He also recalls his grandfather who worked as a lumberman along the Lievre River where timber destined for Britain was driven down river to Quebec City. Harris recalls walking from Gatineau to Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa - a 16-mile trip twice a day including a 5 cent ferry ride across the Ottawa River to Rockcliffe. Additional comments from Harris' wife Grace round out the interview.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
