Accession consists of Sept-Iles District Office Indian school ("Personal") files (Boxes 1-11); Sept-Iles District Office administrative and operational records (Boxes 12-34); and Quebec Regional Office operational records (Box 27).
The Indian school files are organized by school and, within each school, alphabetically by surname. Box 1 is labelled "Dossiers Résidents Étudiants de les Bersemins" [Bersimis]. Box 2 is labelled "Dossiers Personnel Résidents Étudiants de la Tuque". Boxes 3-5 are labelled "Dossiers - Bénéficiaires - Aide Sociale - District Pointe-Bleue". Boxes 6-8 are labelled "Dossiers - Bénéficiaires - Aide Sociale - Mistissini". Boxes 9-11 are labelled "Dossiers - Étudiants - District Pointe-Bleue". It should be noted that the box titles, although correct in their distinction of schools, are misleading regarding the file contents. The files appear to have been classified according to the "P" system; that is, a file classification system implemented by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs in the 1950's (and later abandoned), wherein all correspondence created about an individual Indian that was of a personal nature and covering specified subjects was placed on a separate "Personal" file. In this instance, the "Personal" files are predominantly from the 1960's and cover both Indians and non-Indians at the above schools. The non-Indian "Personal" files cover such subjects as employee (teacher) evaluations, workers' compensation claims by teachers, staff grievances and dismissal, teacher resignations, teacher leaves of absence, and teacher applications for employment. The Indian "Personal" files, in addition to being filed alphabetically, often have a file number on their jackets (classified according to the modified duplex numeric system) and cover such subjects as Travelling Expenses (2-13); Enlistments (3-9); Employment Training Aids (21-4); School Inspection Reports (23-5); Educational Assistance (25-8); Indian House (29-2); Care of Children (29-4); Aged Allowance, Generally (29-5); Needy Mother's Allowance (29-7); Blind Indians (29-11); Disabled Persons Allowances (29-14); Estate files (37-2); Enfranchisements (37-3); and Mentally Incompetent Indians (37-4).

Two files in Box 32 (File 379/31-3-3, Vol. 1 and File 379/31-4-3, Vol. 1) previously had charge-out slips; however, after sending this accession to the National Archives, the Quebec Regional Office of DIAND located the two outstanding files and forwarded them separately. The files were subsequently placed in their appropriate location in Box 32.
