Description:

Television public affairs program with host Ed Reid interviewing abortion specialist Dr. Henry Morgentaler who is waiting to appeal his conviction on performing illegal abortions before the Supreme Court of Canada. They discuss: the safer method of abortion that Morgentaler developed; his belief that women have the right to determine whether or not to bear a child; his concern that governmental refusal to condone clinical abortions drives women to seek dangerous alternatives; his five year internment in a concentration camp during World War II; and support for him. Justice Minister Otto Lang confirms the government's refusal to liberalize abortion laws. Includes scenes of: Pro-Lifers demonstrating at Morgentaler's clinic and giving their opinions of him; Morgentaler performing an abortion; and the Maximum Security Detention Centre in Montreal where he was held pending trial. <30mn>
