This accession consists of a variety of records produced and held by the Headquarters of the St Lawrence Seaway Authority. The records pertain to many subjects such as acts, meetings with regional staff, strategic planning, organization and recruitment of personnel, finance and budgets, 25th anniversary ceremony, contracts, construction of locks, bridges, road, etc., relocation of railway, road, gas pipelines, telephone cables, etc., agreements for construction, maintenance and operation (including drawings), claims and accidents, (including the Valleyfield bridge incident), traffic and tolls, marketing, navigation rules and regulations, reports, shipping associations and traffic control. Also included are letters patent for various canals like Welland, Iroquois, Cornwall, Beauharnois, South Shore, etc., as well as deeds, records relating to the acquisition of land (sometimes by expropriation for the construction of canals), locks or bridges and the transfer of land to federal or provincial governments. We also find some ship files organized by the year the file was opened. Most of the records concerning deeds of land acquired for the Cornwall canal date from the early-mid 19th Century.
