International Railway Company of New Brunswick : A project to build a rail line across New Brunswick from the Baie des Chaleurs to the St. John River first took shape in 1885 with the incorporation of Restigouche and Victoria Colonization Railway Company. In 1896 the name was changed to the Restigouche and Victoria Railway Company. Under New Brunswick Act, 60 Vic., Cap. 82 of 13 March 1897 the Restigouche and Western Railway Company was incorporated to take over the former company. In turn, the latter company was taken over by the International Railway Company of New Brunswick, which was incorporated under New Brunswick Act, 3 Edward VII, Cap. 12 of 19 May 1903, and assumed possession in June 1906. A 111.4 mile line from Campbellton to St. Leonard was constructed and opened in stages between 1900 and 1911. On 1 August 1914 the railway was purchased by the Dominion Government which undertook to operate under lease until 1 August 1919 when it would take possession. RG30 General Inventory
