Montreal Telegraph Company : The Montreal Telegraph Company was incorporated on 28 July 1847 to build and operate a telegraph line along the route of the Grand Trunk Railway. This was successful and under an agreement dated 22 September 1870, a similar line was built along the length of the Intercolonial Railway. Under a lease dated 17 August 1881, the Great North Western Telegraph Company of Canada undertook to operate and manage the lines and property of the Montreal Telegraph Company in conjunction with its own system. The latter company continued to exist as a legal entity until 1954 when, as of 31 May it sold its property and telegraph lines to the Canadian National Telegraph Company. RG30 General Inventory
