West River Railroad Company : The West River Railroad Company was incorporated under the laws of the state of Vermont on 6 November 1867. In 1877 the name was changed to Brattleboro and Whitehall Railroad Company. A 35.35 mile line was constructed from Brattleboro to South Londonderry, Vermont, opening on 3 November 1880. The line was leased by the New London Northern Railroad Company. On 1 March 1881 the lease was passed to the Central Vermont Railroad Company and was operated by it and its corporate descendants until 1930. In the meantime the name reverted to West River Railroad Company on 21 April 1905. On 1 February 1930 the Central Vermont abandoned the lease and the West River Railroad operated independently for a short time until operations were abandoned. RG30 General Inventory
