Hamilton and Lake Erie Railway Company : The Hamilton and Lake Erie Railway Company was incorporated, under Ontario Act, 33 Vic., Cap. 35 of 24 December 1869, to construct and operate a railway from Hamilton to Caledonia and had the right (which was exercised) to purchase the property and rights of the defunct Hamilton and Port Dover Railway Company. Some 40.38 miles of line were constructed between Hamilton and Port Dover, sections commencing operations in 1875 and 1879. With the authority of Ontario Act, 39 Vic., Cap. 72 of 10 February 1876, the Hamilton and Lake Erie Railway Company merged with the Hamilton and North Western Railway Company under the latter name.
