Montreal and New York Railroad Company : On 1 January 1852 as authorized by Province of Canada Act (13-14 Vic.) of 12 August 1850 and confirmed by Province of Canada Act (16 Vic., Cap. 46) on 10 November 1852, the Montreal and Lachine Railroad Company and the Lake St. Louis and Province Line Railway Company amalgamated to form the Montreal and New York Railroad Company. The new company operated 37.57 miles of line inherited from its predecessors until 1857 when it amalgamated with the Company of Proprietors of the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad to form the Montreal and Champlain Railroad Company.
