The series consists of personal material relating to Norman McLaren collected by Grant Munro. Among the material are a few photocopies of letters written by McLaren, including two letters, one undated and one dated 1963, to his mother, three dated 1939 to John Grierson, and one dated 1941 to his brother Jack, relating to his work at the National Film Board and on his artwork. There are also photocopies of a note by McLaren giving an account of awards presentation ceremonies honouring him and a note, 1983, regarding his archives, as well a note in Grant Munro's hand on McLaren's wishes regarding memorials and a memorial notice on McLaren's death. There is one original note in McLaren's hand, a brief manuscript testament dated 1965, and an original diary kept by Norman McLaren in 1983-1984. The diary largely records McLaren's health and moods, but includes references to visits, social activities, his retirement from the National Film Board and other subjects. The series also includes art material by Norman McLaren, including eight small drawings some of which are greeting cards from McLaren to Munro and one large drawing by McLaren given to Munro upon his return from Mexico in 1948.
