Series consists of journals and notebooks and other material kept by Evelyn Lambart.
There are six journals, containing clippings, correspondence and memorabilia as well as journal entries. The first journal, dated 1914-1941, was begun by Evelyn Lambart's mother, Helen Marianne Wallbridge Lambart, and continued by Evelyn Lambart from 1932 to 1940. Loose material includes a letter from her father, Howard John Frederick Lambart, about mountaineering on Mumm Peak; catalogues from the Little Pictures exhibition, Birks Building Studio, Ottawa (1936) and the Art Association of Ottawa Spring Exhibitions (1941). The second journal, dated 1937-1940, was written while Lambart attended the Ontario College of Art. Its pages, removed from their original three ring binder, contain detailed account records and enclose Horace Lambart's obituary, a page torn from Debrett's Illustrated Peerage describing Frederick Rudolph Lambart, Earl of Cavan, and his immediate family, a program for the Figure Skating Follies at the Toronto Skating Club, and a ticket and rule list for the May 22nd, 1939 Royal Procession at Victoria University.
There is a journal, 1945, which provides an account of a bicycle trip from Quebec to Murray Bay and includes charts listing subjects of photographs taken by Lambart with references to the light conditions and filter or exposure settings. A journal, dated 1940-1969 and consisting of pages removed from their original three ring binder, includes diet charts; references to visitors, trips and the duration of various film projects; detailed financial records; illustrations; and diary entries from Sept. 1940 - Dec. 1969 while Lambart was at the National Film Board. Enclosures include a letter and a copy of small pen drawing from Norman McLaren while he was in Hong Kong, 1949, correspondence from McLaren in Bombay, India,1953, and an invitation to McLaren's 1969 Guggenheim retrospective. There are also clippings about Lambart's and McLaren's developments in film animation from 1953-1970. Other loose material consists of programs from the 1950 and 1951 Canadian Film Awards and the Ottawa Film Society, 1952-1953.
A journal, dated 1967-1977, was written by Lambart while at her cottage on Blue Sea Lake and in Sutton, Quebec, with enclosures including diary entries from the summers of 1967 and 1968 and a decorated letter from Caroline Leaf. And finally, there is a cumulative journal begun in 1978, documenting Lambart's health, politics, gardening, the weather, pets, arts and crafts, friends, visitors to her garden, the local horticultural society, trips to Montreal and Ottawa, and containing references to various former National Film Board colleagues including Norman McLaren, Guy Glover, Grant Munro and Gerald Budner.
The series also includes an account book, 1969-1972, containing finance records, personnel records from the National Film Board, retirement benefits information, and a copy of a 1972 decorated letter and envelope from Norman McLaren; a correspondence logbook, including references to letters to Nicole Eaton and photographer Freeman Patterson, regarding In a Canadian Garden; a notebook containing lists of words and their definitions; a photocopy of the guests' comment book for Lambart's Fiber Art show at ArtsSutton, 1993, along with a copy of the exhibition notice; and photocopies of pages from a guest book commenting on the Lambart film retrospective 1993.
Manuscript material includes Evelyn Lambart's storyboard and other material for The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse (along with the lyrics for Mr. Frog Went A Courting); and Norman McLaren's instructions to his house in Hudson, Quebec, with an illustrated set of directions and a map.
The series also includes calendars 1991-1999; and an invitation, n.d., from Government House to the Lambart family.
The last acquisition made in 2005, included a personal address book and a notebook containing lists of gifts given and received for Christmas (1955-1998). Loose material includes an invitation from the Governor General and Mrs. Michener to the Outstanding Achievement Award Ceremony (March 21, 1972); 1 card from Nathalie and Alain Beaudel (July 23, 1996) and 1 card from Alex and Claire (undated).
