Sub-series consists of central registry files created and maintained by the Communications Services Directorate and its predecessors. Most of the material dates from the years 1966-1976, but one file on the history of the Labour Gazette goes back to 1900. Covered also is the Directorate's work with a number of key organizations in Canada in the public relations area including the Canadian Manufacturers Association and the Canadian Labour Congress. Also covered is liaison work of the Directorate in setting up a number of conferences and exhibits in the labour management field. One series of files deals with the Department's attempt to have its official history written for its seventy-fifth birthday in 1975.
Other files cover the Communication Aids-Injury Compensation program, Special Events and Projects, the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Financing, Conferences, Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, the Canadian Railway Labour Association, etc.
Volumes 615-617 and 1902 contain central registry files concerning public relations matters, and more particularly publicity and advertising. Included are such subjects as the following: the employment of women; making of films and patenting of films prepared by the department; cancellation of advertising with Communist publications; industrial safety; copies of national radio scripts for such programmes as "Canada At War", and "The People Ask"; Labour Day messages; files regarding the Labour Gazette, including general correspondence, editorial policy and contents, printing and publishing.
Volume 2005 contains files from the Wartime Information Board, diffused through the Communications Directorate of Labour Canada and held in their library. The volume contains Information Briefs, no. 1 to 65, Press Surveys and Reference papers from 1943 to 1945.
