Album contains albumen prints documenting different varities of Canadian trees taken by Horatio N. Topley for the Department of the Interior, c. 1880. Virtually all the photographs were taken in high summer. Most of the trees depicted are deciduous, with the exception of views of the red forest pine, white pine, white spruce, Norway spruce, and Douglas fir. All titles and identifications are given in English, with no Latin genera indicated. There are 60 images in the album, but the identified negative numbers run up to 105. It is therefore possible that a number of trees from the original project by Horatio Topley were not included in this album. Another album containing some of the same images, with slightly different captions and different organization of the photos, is available in accession number 1939-428.
