Collection comprises editorial cartoons by Ben Lafontaine published through syndication in various magazines and newspapers. Works are predominantly of national and provincial interst. Politicians featured frequently include Brian Mulroney, Jean Chrétien, Robert Bourassa, Lucien Bouchard, Bob Rae, Michael Wilson and Don Mazankowski. Issues of note include the economy, federal-provincial relations, free trade, the Meech Lake Accord, aboriginal issues and the Oka crisis, election results and the Quebec referendum. The collection has been arranged chronologically.

Biography/Administrative history:

Lafontaine, Ben, 1963- : Editorial cartoonist. Ben Lafontaine was born, in 1963, in Sherbrooke Québec. Trained in commercial art, he worked several years in advertising before becoming a full-time cartoonist. Lafontaine formed his own syndicate named the Canadian Cartooning Company. Through syndication, his work appeared in both dailies and weeklies across Canada. The Canadian Associates of Labour Media distributed his work to over 300 union publications. The recipient of several cartooning awards, Lafontaine (also known under the pseudonym of "Laf") works, as well, in the area of three-dimensional sculptural caricatures.
