Sub-series consists of material pertaining to special projects undertaken by Karsh and correspondence, manuscripts, notes and other material relating to his books and speeches.
The general projects and assignments files include correspondence, notes, receipts and background material pertaining to various projects and assignments undertaken by Karsh. Included is documentation on photo shoots for various companies (Atlas Steel, Canadair and Ford of Canada), films ("The Ten Commandments", "Zulu", "Sodom and Gomorrah" and "Lancelot and Guinevere") and books including the Hawthorne Books series ("This is Rome", "This is the Promised Land", etc.). There is also material documenting studio renovation projects, Karsh's autobiography, and files containing correspondence with a number of agents, publicists, and advertising firms. There is original correspondence from Cecil B. De Mille in the "Hollywood trip" files while the "Harper's Bazaar" file contains correspondence from Barbara Walters. Arranged chronologically with oversized material moved to volume 344.
There are notes and manuscript copies of speeches and articles written by Karsh as well as copies of speeches and articles written about him. Arranged alphabetically.
There are files documenting Karsh's books, containing notes, clippings, background information, correspondence with publishers, publicists and graphic artists, and copies of reviews from newspapers and magazines. Included are profiles of Karsh's subjects, copies of questionnaires sent to them, and transcripts of interviews held with them. The material is arranged chronologically by book, with each book's files arranged alphabetically; filed at the beginning of the books are lists kept by Karsh recording the dispersement of complimentary copies, as well as autobiographical sketches used in publicizing the books. The books documented include "Faces of Destiny", "Portraits of Greatness", "In Search of Greatness", "Karsh Portfolio", "Faces of Our Time", "Karsh Portraits", "Karsh Canadians" and "Karsh: A Fifty Year Retrospective".
The "Faces of Destiny" files contain correspondence with many of its subjects, including correspondence with Rt. Hon. Clement Richard Atlee, Lord Beveridge, General Henry Crerar and Eleanor Roosevelt, among others.
The "Portraits of Greatness" files contain information gathered by Karsh on his sitters, including correspondence, clippings and background material. There is original correspondence with Augustus John, Jacob Epstein, George Eonesco, Picasso, Eileen Joyce, Ralph J.Bunche, Edward Murrow and Sir Laurence Olivier. Also included is correspondence with Bruce Hutchison with whom Karsh worked on the profiles iun the book, as well as correspondence with McClelland and Stewart and New York Graphic.
The "Karsh Canadians" files contains correspondence with many well known Canadians including Robertson Davies, John Diefenbaker, John Kenneth Galbraith, Gerhard Herzberg, Karen Kain, Margaret Laurence, Jean Paul Lemieux, Rene Levèsque, and others.
