Series consists of records relating to the role played by Planning and Management Services Program Officer Ken Heard in the process of dismantlement of the National Museums of Canada. The records include preliminary drafts of the Act respecting museums (1990), correspondence with federal cultural agencies, minutes and reports from various consultative committees involved with the preparation of transitional measures. The series also includes records relating to the evolution of administrative regulations for each of the four national museums.

National Museums of Canada. Planning and Management Services : The Planning and Management Services section of Corporate Services was responsible for creating and implementing a centralized planning system to enact policies. The section also provided the necessary consultative and practical services required to oversee management functions. Program Officer Ken Heard was actively involved in the process that led to the dismantlement of the National Museums of Canada. RG132 General Inventory

Custodial history:

After the dismantlement of the NMC in 1987, most of the records from Planning and Management Services were transferred to the four national museums - the National Museum of Science and Technology, the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Canadian Museum of Nature. Only the records of Program Officer Ken Heard were transferred in 1993 to the National Archives, by way of the Department of Communications.
