Series consists of accounting records created and maintained by the Department of Finance. The series includes appropriation ledgers and balances; receipt and disbursement journals and ledgers; warrants, certificates, and journal vouchers; United Canadas departmental ledgers; Orders in Council relating to expenditures; and various statements and returns. In much of the material transferred to the National Archives from the Department of Finance no pre-archival arrangement was discernable and, therefore, it has been considered desirable to revert to an arrangement under subject headings because of the diversified nature and small volume of some types of records.
