This album, comprised of 87 pages on which 271 photographs are mounted, documents the first Canadian government expedition to the Arctic on the S.S. Beothic. Views of settlements from the water and the establishment of R.C.M.P. detachments at Lake Harbour and Bache Peninsula are main subjects. Photos mostly by G.P. Mackenzie and L.D. Livingstone, but also L.D. Morin, Captain Falk, G.T.M (last name unknown), Maurice Haycock and F.H. Stringer. Livingstone's photographs concern his 1,100 mile journey on land from Pangnirtung to Pond Inlet in 1927. There are photographs of Dr. Frederick Banting, and one of A.Y. Jackson, as part of a group of artists on a painting expedition sponsored by the government, who travelled on the Beothic as well. There are also photographs from the relics of A. Greeley's and Sir John Franklin's Arctic expeditions in the 1800s.
