The first session of the panel discussion features Pierre Laurin, Professor with the School of Business, University of Montreal. He offers a historical perspective on fiscal and monetary policy in Canada with emphasis on interest rates, the Canadian dollar, Consumer Price Index, and deficit reduction. The second speaker, Dr. Tom Velk, Professor of Economics, McGill University, discusses related aspects of fiscal and monetary policy. A question and answer period follows. In the second session, Dr. Carl E. Beigie, the Claude Bissell Professor of Canadian-American Relations at the University of Toronto and President of the C.D. Howe Institute, explains the causes of inflation and unemployment. Dr. Maurice N. Marchon, Professor, Institut d'économie appliqué, École des Hautes Études commerciales in Montreal, presents another aspect of the problem of inflation and unemployment. A question and answer period follows.
