Sub-series consists of central registry files from the registry system of the Northern Affairs Program. After 1970, active Northern Administration Branch files were converted to the new registry system of the Northern Affairs Program. The two main subject file blocks of this new registry system refer to Administrative Records and Operational Records. The Administrative Records include the following subject blocks: Administration (N1000-N1499), Finance (N1500-N1999), Personnel (N2000-N2499), Buildings and Land (N2500-N2999), Equipment and Supplies (N3000-N3499) and General Services (N3500-N3999). The Operational Records include the following subject blocks: Northern - General (N4000-N4099), Economic Development (N4600-N4849), Education (N5100-N5299), Environmental Protection (N5500-N5599),Flora (N6100-N6299), Health and Social Services (N6475-N6699), Justice and Law Enforcement (N6800-N6899), Lands (N7000-N7299), Manpower (N7500-N7599), Mineral Resources (N7600-N8099), Territorial Government (N8950-N9199), Water Resources (N9500-N9599), and Wildlife (N9800-N9999).
The central registry files in our custody of the Northern Affairs Program were in part brought forward from the older duplex-numeric file numbers of the registry system of the predecessor Northern Administration Branch and in part created by the Program itself. Some subjects covered include Inuit loans, Northern Rental Housing Program, publications, lectures and speeches by prominent civil servants, mining companies, and exhibitions. In addition to the file classification manual, a list of file titles, numbers, and dates serves as the finding aid to this sub-series., Sub-series also consists of maps used by the Northern Affairs Program in the course of performing its duties. The sub-series contains a folio of 28 maps pertaining to the Alaska Highway Gas Pipeline Project (Yukon Section) (N8087); a folio of 4 maps with 5 overlays relating to the Whitehorse, Y.T., Townsite Extension; a map showing winter and spring camps of Inuvik Trappers, Aklavik Trappers and Fort McPherson Tappers 1963-64; 2 maps of The Lower Mackenzie, Trading Post Openings, 1912-1929, and 1929-1935; a map of Acquatic Resources in the Parsons Lake Area (N5780-1); Willow Lake Area, N.W.T. (Sheet 95J); Tetcho Lake Area, N.W.T. (Sheet 95A); Mackenzie River Area, N.W.T. (Sheet 95J); Rabbitskin River Area, N.W.T. (Sheet 85E); and a hand coloured map of Stump Mines, Silver Key Mines, Ketza River, Y.T. (N7800-3); as well as site plans of Fort McPherson, and Fort Simpson, N.W.T., Sub-series also includes a poster advertising the 1994 Arctic Winter Games.
