Sub-sub-series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Office of the Director, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. The sub-sub-series includes correspondence, including some with other government departments and employees of the Dominion Observatories; press clippings etc. Many of the files relate to the construction of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory.

This sub-sub series also includes 15 photographs showing views of the interior and exterior of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory near Victoria, BC. during the course of its construction and once it was completed. See item level descriptions for more details.

Canada. Dominion Astrophysical Observatory. Office of the Director : Dr J.S. Plaskett served as the first Director of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, from 1917-1935, Dr W.E. Harper filled this position from 1935-1940 and Dr J.A. Pearce after 1940.

Custodial history:

These records were transferred to the then Public Archives of Canada in 1984 from the National Research Council., Upon acquisition in 1985, 15 photographs were transferred to the National Photographic Collection. In 2019, the photographs were reconnected to their proper descriptive location with the textual records in this sub-sub series.
