Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. H.M.C.S. Brunswicker : With the onset of the Second World War, the Saint John Division RCNVR became the primary recruiting and training establishment of the Royal Canadian Navy in Saint John. As the war progressed, the unit was re-christened HMCS Brunswicker and close ties were developed with HMCS CAPTOR II, the Naval Control of Shipping Base at Reed's Point. In the post-war period, Brunswicker continued to provide a demanding training schedule that emphasized both seamanship and trade group specialization for Naval Reservists in Saint John. In recent years the Unit has used its cutter, the 65ft Patrol Boat ADVERSUS to augment Brunswicker's sea training and operational roles on the Saint John River System and the Bay of Fundy. Reservists served in the Persian Gulf War and the subsequent operations in the Red Sea to support UN sanctions, and were an integral part of Canada's contribution to the UN Observer Group in Cambodia. Reservists onboard both Reserve and Regular Force vessels, and in cooperation with Other Government Departments, have also made contributions to Coastal Defence and Surveillance in such operations as Fisheries Patrols and Drug Interdiction Operations.
