Canada. Canadian Forces Base (Clinton, Ont.) : In 1941 the RAF Signals School began instructing aircrew in radar direction finding at Clinton, Ontario, where more than eight thousand Canadian and American officers were trained in its use. In 1943 the RCAF took over the station and it was renamed No. 5 RCAF Radar School. The school became a permanent RCAF station in September 1945 and was mandated to train airmen in the use of radar and electronic communications. CFB Clinton retained this training mandate when it was established on 1 April 1967. Centred in Huron Country, north of London, Ontario, Clinton was an amalgamation of RCAF Station Clinton and Detachment 1 Company, RCASC, and reported to Training Command. CFB Clinton was closed in 1971. As a result of the close-out, the following units were moved from CFB Clinton to other bases: Radar and Communication School to CFB Kingston, Canadian Forces School of Instructional Technique (established in September 1969) to CFB Borden, and Canadian Forces Warrant Officer School (established in July 1969) to CFB Esquimalt.
