Sub-series of CO 5 consists of correspondence, journals, returns, petitions, proclamations, treaties of peace, proceedings of congresses and conferences with aboriginal peoples, reports on trade, fortification plans and other documents relating to British North America as well as to preConquest Canada. Major classifications of these records include: military and naval despatches, "Expedition Against Canada", "Indian Affairs", Surveys, "Commissioners to quiet disorders in North America", Captain Vancouver's despatches, and records relating to the American colonies, e.g., New York, Virginia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, etc. Among the subjects documented are the following: relations between the British and the Six Nations, the surrender of Louisburg, the government, court proceedings and fisheries of Newfoundland, the government of Nova Scotia, the siege of Quebec, and the management of Indian Affairs through the Superintendent of Indian Affairs (v. 9-187, v. 536, v.751-756, v.898-901, v. 931-934, v. 1084-1110).
