Series consists of CSGA records, dated predominantly 1940-1948, which Town evidently acquired when he served on its executive: largely incoming and outgoing correspondence between the Society's secretaries E.C. Barker, Frederick Hagan and Betty Maw and its artist members. Files include the society's incorporation papers dated 1942 and 1947; general newsletters and minutes; financial correspondence concerning membership dues; arrangements for exhibitions, lists of works to be exhibited and statements of framing charges; nominations for office; and biographical information on members.

Correspondents include Carl Schaefer, Martin Baldwin, Maxwell Bates, B.C. Binning, Miller Brittain, Fritz Brandtner, Jack Bush, Charles Comfort, Kathleen Daly, Kathleen Fenwick, Charles Goldhamer, Jack Humphrey, Lawrence Hyde, Ernest Lindner, Grant Macdonald, H.O. McCurry, Louis Muhlstock, Will Ogilvie, Jack Shadbolt, Frederick Taylor and Gordon Webber. Corresponding institutions include the Art Gallery of Toronto, National Film Board of Canada and National Gallery of Canada.
