Series consists of copies of articles and addresses presented by Gelber throughout her career on the subjects of equal employment opportunities for women, women in the health profession, welfare and social services, new initiatives for hospital insurance and medical care (1958-1978). French versions for some speeches are included. A major component of this series consists of typed manuscripts of Gelber's book, "No Balm in Gilead: a Personal Retrospective of Mandate Days in Palestine", as well as an unedited early draft of this manuscript entitled "Mandate Days Remembered" and materials relating to its preparation and publication (1933-1991). The series also includes correspondence regarding her efforts to publish the book in Canada, as well as to her attempts to have the book distributed/published in Israel and Britain and her donation of copies to various Jewish organizations. Documents include correspondence with her editor, Diane Mew and with former Clerk of the Privy Council R. Gordon Robertson who critiqued her manuscript; correspondence with publishers on the possibility of publication; and background notes on various subjects. Also included are correspondence about royalties; letters of congratulations from friends, family members and others; as well as copies of publication announcements, reviews, interviews with the author, and publicity materials surrounding the launch.

Series also contains photographic material of Gelber's book launch "No Balm in Gilead" at the National Library of Canada (1990; and one photograph of opera singer Hilde Zadek (1999).
