Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, financial statements, reports, clippings, and other material relating to Hamilton Southam's involvement with Southam Press, as a shareholder and as a director of Southam Inc.

Included is correspondence with Philip Fisher and St. Clair Balfour, presidents of the company, and with Gordon N. Fisher, a vice-president. Among the subjects covered are the purchase and sale of Southam shares, business of the board of directors, the closure of the Winnipeg Tribune, Selkirk Communications Ltd., the Southam Family Group, and Torstar Corporation.

The series includes files on specific issues of interest to Hamilton Southam, including sponsorship of a photography exhibition at Expo, the Tin-Tin comic strip, cultural publications and arts coverage, board of directors' "think-ins", a proposal for a literary supplement, and investment in the film Lies My Father Told Me.
