A series on the history of radio based on material from CBC Program Archives. Host J. Frank Willis comments on radio coverage of the three Royal Tours (1939, 1951 and 1957). The following broadcast excerpts are used as illustrations: King George VI and William Lyon Mackenzie King at the welcoming reception of the 1939 tour (CBC disc 390517-1, numbers 1 to 6). Ernest L. Bushnell, General Supervisor of Programs, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation,, describes the problems of covering a Royal Tour. Various Indian chiefs comment on the Royal Tour of 1939 (CBC disc 390517-1, number 34). A program in the series Royal Tour Diary, a typical program during the tour, gives greetings from the Commonwealth with music by Percy Faith, on the occasion of Victoria Day (CBC disc 1939-05-17-1, numbers 28 to 31). Farewell ceremonies from Halifax (CBC disc 390517-1, numbers 55 to 62). Princess Elizabeth, age 15, broadcasts an appeal not to lose hope during the Second World War. Winston Churchill talks of the second Queen Elizabeth and the heritage she has from the first Queen Elizabeth. Various bloopers which announcers have let slip during live, spontaneous coverage (CBC disc 390517-1). Prince Philip thanking Toronto Businessmen's Association for a luncheon given in 1951 (CBC disc 511013-1). An account of a reception given at Hamilton for Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip (CBC disc 511014-1). An account by John Fisher of a reception given to the Royal Couple at Kamloops, British Columbia (CBC disc 511022-3). Opening of Parliament ceremony, including Black Rod (CBC disc 571014-1). Queen Elizabeth II gives a speech from the Throne during the 1957 visit. <1h>
