James Stowell's lecture film of the 1946 MacMillan Labrador Arctic Expedition on the 88' two masted schooner Bowdoin which sailed 29 June from Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and visited Sydney, Nova Scotia, Labrador coastal communities of Battle Harbour, Hopedale, Davis Inlet (vacated since 2002), Nain, Saglek Bay, MacDonald Bay, Windy Tickle and other coastal harbours, returning on 3 August. Scenes include: Bowdoin crew onboard; crowd on wharf including WCOU Radio, reporters and general public on hand for the send off; escorted departure; at sea; aboard, crew including Commander Donald and Miriam MacMillan at the helm; "heavy fog and choppy seas"; "Cabot Strait in the fury of a North Atlantic gale"; a visit to the cod fishing fleet at Windy Tickle where crews of 10-12 men hand haul nets aboard; arriving at Battle Harbour; close-up of map showing stops along Labrador coast; views of icebergs; Inner Gannet Islands nesting sanctuary; hunting seabirds; bound for Hopedale; Mission boat welcomes arrival at Nain, "largest Moravian Eskimo (Inuit) Missions in Labrador"; Inuk rowing boat carrying Doctor Paul and Kate Hettasch, and Reverend Peacock; offloading; locals and village, dogs and housing, mission, Consolidated Canso flying boat CF-OIK in harbour; James V. Stowell with two young girls Mary and sister Josie; Inuit from Hebron; Naskapi at Davis Inlet, some in traditional clothing, tents and dogs; cemetary; clothes drying on fence; dogs and puppies; bathing on the deck of the Bowdoin; Saglek Bay; the Bowdoin alongside pack ice; exploring the nesting ground of the Black Back Gull; Dr. Alfred Bailey, Director of the Colorado Museum of Natural History, Denver, seen earlier using a film camera; icebergs and sunset. <37mn 42s>

Ports of call included: Sydney (Nova Scotia), Battle Harbour, Domino Cove, Hopedale, Davis Inlet, Nain (Hebron), Horr Harbour, MacDonald Bay, John's Cove, Saglek Bay, Amity Harbour, MacDonald Bay, Nain, Davis Inlet, Windy Tickle, Webeck Harbour, Cape Harrison, Webeck Harbour, Mullin's Cove near Grady Island, St. Mary's Harbour, Battle Harbour, Chateau, Blanc Sablon (Québec), Port au Choix (Newfoundland), Sydney (Nova Scotia), Bras d'or Lakes (Nova Scotia), St. Peters Locks and Halifax (Nova Scotia), and Boothbay Harbor (Maine).~5. In December 2002, the Mushuau Innu began the move from Davis Inlet to their new community of Natuashish. The relocation was one of the first steps in the Labrador Innu Comprehensive Healing Strategy.
