Custodial responsibility for these records is shared between the Canadian Archives Branch (CAB) and the Government Records Branch (GRB). Please see lower level records for more details.

Arrangement is based on the view that the fact that the correspondence is with the Colonial Office is more important than the fact that it is from the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, the Governor of Lower Canada, the Governor-in-Chief of the Province of Canada, and the Governor General of Canada. Therefore, these records have been included within the series Correspondence with the Colonial Office rather than in other series relating specifically to the various geo-political entities. The sub-series has been broken down into four sub-sub-series, one each for Lower Canada, Upper Canada, the Province of Canada, and the Dominion of Canada.

The records in this sub-series which are in the custody of the Canadian Archives Branch (CAB), i.e., volumes 1-71, are available on microfilm reels H-1101 to H-1109. Records in the custody of the Government Records Branch (GRB), i.e., volumes 72-94, are not available on microfilm.
