Sub-sub-series consists of letter book copies of letters sent by the Secretary of the Governor-in-Chief to Crown Law Officers, principally the Attorney General and the Solicitor General. Enclosures are not usually recorded. A contents list noting addressee, date, subject and page references is available at the beginning of each volume.

For a brief period, the Civil Secretary of Lower Canada maintained a separate letter book to record the text of letters addressed to the Law Officers of the Crown (the Attorney General, the Solicitor General, etc.). Prior to 1833 and after 1841, such correspondence is found in the main series of letter books.
