"A General Description of the Province of Nova Scotia, and a Report of the present State of the Defences, with Observations leading to the further growth and Security of this Colony, done by Lieutenant Colonel Morse, Chief Engineer in America, upon a Tour of the Province in the Autumn of the Year 1783, and Summer 1784, Under the Orders and Instructions of His Excellency Sir Guy Carleton, General and Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Forces in North America, given at Head Quarters at New York the 28th Day of July 1783".

The report gives a geographical description of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick (which was part of Nova Scotia until 1784) and analyses the geographical complexity of the St. Croix dispute. It also includes: some account of flora and fauna; of population, including the statistics of Loyalist settlement in the province; descriptions of all fortifications, with plans for their extension and for the necessary improvement of communications; and tables of barrack accommodation, ordnance, small arms and ammunition. The report ends with the suggestion of "uniting these Provinces with Canada" and "employing an able man to preside over the whole." King's MSS. 208, ff. 1-45.
