The series consists of files pertaining to Canadian Press, particularly from the period of I. Norman Smith's heaviest involvement in its management between 1967 and 1972. Some of the subjects covered in the series are Broadcast News Ltd. (a subsidiary of Canadian Press), by-laws, financial matters, a new building, the retirements of Smith and Beland Honderich, nominations, Associated Press, and the CBC. It also holds minutes of meetings of the Board of Directors, executive committee, assessment committee, advisory committee, regional meetings, and annual meetings.

Some early files that predate I. Norman Smith's involvement with Canadian Press relate to its incorporation by Ernest Norman Smith and the correspondence of J. F. B. Livesay and E. Norman Smith, 1919-1941.
