The Allied invasion of Normandy is graphically described, with its eastern drive towards Germany across France and with an emphasis on Canadian participation. Ground and aerial battles are focuses upon. Advancing Canadian infantry attacks outside Caen. A Canadian soldier is being decorated by Field Marshal Montgomery. French villagers are returning to their villages after liberation. French Canadian troops join in Bastille Day worship in an emotional small town gathering in Normandy. There is footage of the landing of Canadian troops, of the town of Caen - the intact parts and the destroyed areas, of the Supreme Allied Command in conference (ie. Field Marshal Montgomery and General Eisenhower), of General H. Crerar in a medium shot entering a building in military company, of war correspondent Ross Munroe taking notes at a press conference held by Field Marshal Montgomery. Medium shot of German POWs parading by in single file, arms up in the air, of SS Corps POWs waiting in captivity in a field, of the Canadian Army at the front in a period of relaxation between battles. There is also a noteworthy pictorial of Canadian troops being entertained by a dance routine of a musical show. <11mn>
