1. Joseph (Joe) Arlington Retty was appointed Chief Geologist to the Labrador Mining and Exploration Company in 1936. In 1937, Mathieu André, a Montagnais trapper turned prospector, presented rocks to Joe Retty, which led to the discovery of siezable iron ore deposits in Labrador, making it one of the most outstanding mining developments of the twentieth century. (Ungava Strikes it Rich, by Stuart Keate. Maclean's, December 1, 1948).
