Series consists of letters and papers relating chiefly to the Gore Bank, Hamilton, 1839-1842. Correspondents include Sir Allan McNab, M.P.P. Hamilton; Leslie Battersby; William Proudfoot, President, Bank of Upper Canada; Colin C. Ferrie, second President, Gore Bank; Thomas G. Ridout; and James Fitzgibbon. The main subject of the bank correspondence concerns a controversy over the election of officials to the Gore Bank and J.J. Whyte's resignation in 1839.

The series also contains a few letters and newspaper clippings addressed to the Hamilton Herald and the Toronto Bank of Commerce which provide more bibliographic information and historical notes relating to the Gore Bank and its successor, the Bank of Commerce, 1918-1921. The collection also includes accounts of Whyte's business transactions in Jamaica, 1817-1834.
