This film shows how important careful mailing habits can be. The death of Thomas Stanley, one of the towns wealthiest merchants, leaves his wife and daughter, Mona, penniless and forced to take in boarders. Stanley's son, Frank, is convinced that he will be able to get a job and relieve his family of their financial burden. When his fiancee, Gertrude, tells him that her father, the soap magnate, is hiring, Frank pledged to write that evening without fail.~Some days later, the family and boarders are at the dinner table. Edward Simmons, who is the supervisor of sorters at the post office, chides Mona for how poorly women address their letters. Mrs. Stanley concurs. When asked about his application, Frank sheepishly replies that he addressed his letter incorrectly and by the time it was forwarded, the position had been filled. Mr. Simmons offers to show him how the mail is sorted and why it is so important to address letters properly.~At the Bowling Club Dance, Gertrude dances with a man while Frank broods. At the end of her dance, Frank accuses Gertrude of not helping him enough to get the job. Gertrude points out that it was his postal error that cost him the job and goes to dance with the man, who happens to be the successful applicant, again.~One day, Mr. Simmons takes Frank to the Post Office to see how the mail is sorted. Here, Frank is shown the consequences of many common mailing errors: the delay caused by poorly addressed letters, poorly wrapped parcels and various other mailing problems. Having learned his lesson, Frank takes great care writing his next application and is rewarded with a position. He sits in his new office and writes to Gertrude apologizing for his behavior and asking her to meet him that evening.~Later, Mona and Mr. Simmons talk in the parlour under Mrs. Stanley's supervision, as Frank and Gertrude speak on the veranda. Gertrude accepts Frank's apology and tells him that her father wants to offer him a position as District Sales Manager. Thrilled, Frank takes down the "boarders wanted" from the railing and the two go in to tell the others their good news. Frank writes on the sign and holds it up; it says "NO boarders wanted" now. But Mona, holding Mr. Simmons' hand, suggests that they must keep one boarder, "just to help us with the mail." <18mn 15s>
