This series consists of records regarding the prizes and awards created by the Canadian Historical Association (CHA) to promote and recognise excellence in historical research. The files hold news releases, correspondence, lists of recipients, nominees and submissions, invoices, newsletters, memorandums, reports, and prize citations. The prizes, which are generally awarded at the Annual Meeting, include the Albert B. Corey prize, Sir John A. Macdonald prize, Francois-Xavier Garneau medal, and Wallace K. Ferguson prize, among others.

The François-Xavier Garneau Medal is awarded every five years and honours an outstanding Canadian contribution to historical research. Fonds also includes a specimen of the Garneau medal. The Sir John A. Macdonald Prize is awarded annually to the best scholarly book in Canadian history and is awarded at the Governor General Awards for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History at Rideau Hall. The Wallace K. Ferguson Prize is awarded annually to the best book in history other than Canadian by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The Clio Prizes are awarded for meritorious publications or for exceptional contributions by individuals or organizations to regional history. The Albert B. Corey prize is jointly sponsored by the American Historical Association (AHA) and Canadian Historical Association (CHA) for the best book on the history of Canadian-American relations. The John Bullen Prize honours the outstanding Ph.D. thesis on a historical topic submitted in a Canadian university. The Hilda Neatby Prize in Women's and Gender History, has been awarded since 1982 by the Canadian Committee in Women's History. The Public History Prize recognizes work that achieves high standards of original research, scholarship, and presentation; brings an innovative public history contribution to its audience; and serves as a model for future work, advancing the field of public history in Canada.
