The fonds consists of the records of the Canadian Churches' Forum for Global Ministries and its predecessors. The textual records include records relating to the Canadian Council of Churches, Faith and Order Commission, Living Ecumenism Commission, Inter-Church Committee, missionary education course, Research and Training Commission, Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, Salvation Today, Student Volunteer Mission, Student Volunteer Movement, Theological Students Conference, World Council of Churches, and subject files.

The photographs document persons associated with the Forum, its head offices and buildings, groups of missionaries in training, and work in the field. The photographs are housed with the textual records in volume 94. In addition, there is a large map of the world dating from 1924 showing world populations and religions.

This fonds also includes files in horizontal storage: Committee of Youth Poster (container 95), The Presbyterian Witness newspaper (container 96), International Sunday School Convention Poster (container 97), Roman Catholic The Week of Unity poster (container 98), and the Student Volunteer Movement Quarennial Convention poster (container 99).

Canadian Churches' Forum for Global Ministries : The Canadian Churches' Forum for Global Ministries was founded in 1921 in Toronto as the Canadian School of Missions. Its purpose was to train Protestant missionaries for work in the field and its first director was Dr. J. Lowell Murray. The founding members consisted of denominational mission boards, theological colleges and training institutions. From the 1920s through the 1950s, the School developed programs for the preparation of missionaries for overseas service, organized lecture series and conferences, developed a specialized library, and served as a club for missionaries on furlough. Canon T. W. Isherwood replaced Murray as the director in 1947 and was in turn replaced by Dr. L. S. Albright the following year. With the participation of the American Bible Society, Albright founded the Toronto Institute of Linguistics in 1950.

The School held a special conference on its future in 1960 and a report arising from this initiative recommended that it join the Canadian Council of Churches to form an "ecumenical centre". As a result, it became an agency of that body in 1963 under its by-laws and was renamed the Canadian School of Missions and Ecumenical Institute. In this new form it would continue to train overseas missionaries and stimulate interest in overseas missions in Canada, but would also assist in promoting the objectives and activities of the Canadian Council of Churches concerning mission. It was envisaged as an academic institution offering courses to graduate and undergraduate students, and as a centre for conferences and short courses for ministers and missionaries. Canon H. L. James Puxley became the new director of the school in 1963 on the retirement of Albright. Its name was shortened to the Ecumenical Institute of Canada in 1965, changed again to the Ecumenical Forum of Canada in 1976, and finally became the Canadian Churches' Forum for Global Ministries in 1989. These changes reflected the continuing evolution of its mandate in the 1970s and 1980s as its program shifted from emphasizing academic courses to cross-cultural missions education and a return to its roots of missionary orientation and education. The Forum is now officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. It is financed by the major denominations and other organizations, and by the individual contributions of the Friends of the Forum.
