Fonds consists of textual records, n.d., 1942-1946: the wartime correspondence of Gordon and Fred Hunter, with memorials and letters of condolence and support to the family following the death of Gordon Hunter; and several military service documents.

Fonds also consists of photographs by various individuals and organizations, including the Department of National Defence, which depict events and activities, places, units, individuals and groups associated with the careers of Gordon and Fred Hunter, officers of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry serving in Britain, ca. 1941-1944.

Hunter (family) : Robert Gordon Hunter (1913-1944) and Fredric Charles Hunter (1916-1992) were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Hunter of Grimsby, Ontario. Both enlisted in the Canadian army in December 1940 and following the Dieppe Raid of August 1942 served as officers with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. Gordon Hunter was promoted to captain with the regiment and was second in command of "C" Company during the Normandy Invasion. He was killed in the assault of Verrières Ridge, 25 July 1944. Fred Hunter was returned to Canada in 1944 and discharged in June 1945 as a captain.
